Symbolics I - Dr. Sam Waldron
Exposition of the Confession of Faith – Part I
The 1689 Baptist Confession (the doctrinal statement of the MCTS) has been vastly influential in the history of Baptists.  It provides a wonderful summary of the great doctrines of the Christian faith, and serves as an effective tool for grounding Christians in what they believe.  Chapters 1-9 will be explored with an emphasis on their historic meaning and biblical support.  These chapters contain the crème of historic Baptist teaching on subjects ranging from Scripture to Free Will.

The 1689 Baptist Confession (the doctrinal statement of the MCTS) has been vastly influential in the history of Baptists.  It provides a wonderful summary of the great doctrines of the Christian faith, and serves as an effective tool for grounding Christians in what they believe.  Chapters 11-32 will be explored with an emphasis on their historic meaning and biblical support.  These chapters contain the crème of historic, Baptist teaching on subjects ranging from the divine institutions regulating human life to the doctrine of last things.


The Doctrine of God - Dr. Sam Waldron
This course provides an historical and exegetical approach to the knowledge, triunity, nature, and sovereignty of God in light of the many, current debates and questions among evangelicals. 


The Doctrine of the Church - Dr. Sam Waldron
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the doctrine of the church.  It includes discussion of its nature, identity, origin, institution, authority, government, worship, mission, tasks, ordinances, relationship to other divine institutions (the family and the state) as well as its ultimate goal and destiny.


The Doctrine of Justification - Dr. Sam Waldron & Pastor Jeff Smith
This course provides an historical and contemporary overview of the doctrine of justification.  The development and meaning of justification by faith alone is traced through a study of Luther, Calvin, and the Protestant Confessions.  Contemporary departures from the historic doctrine including those associated with the new perspective on Paul are explained and subjected to a biblical critique which also provides a fresh treatment of the biblical support of justification sola fide.  A wider view of the Reformed doctrine of salvation is provided through the reading.  This course satisfies the requirement in the MCTS curriculum for Doctrine of Salvation. 
 
 
Doctrine of Man - Dr. Sam Waldron
Included here are treatments of creation and providence; the origin, identity, constitution, and free agency of man; man’s original relationship with God and integrity before God; the creation ordinances; the fall; actual, original, and imputed sin; the consequences of sin; and common grace.


Doctrine of Christ - Dr. Sam Waldron
Treats the person (full deity, divine personality, human incarnation, and messianic office) and the work of Christ (humiliation and exaltation, representative obedience, and the atonement).


History of Baptists - Dr. Tom Nettles
This course centers on Baptist highlights from their seventeenth-century origin as a separate denomination to the present. Three specific divisions include: 1) The Rise and Development of English Baptists; 2) Baptist Beginnings in the United States to the Formation of the Southern Baptist Convention; 3) The History of the Southern Baptist Convention to the present.    


Introduction to Pastoral Theology I - Dr. Tom Ascol      
This class examines the foundations of pastoral ministry in the letters of 1 & 2 Timothy and Titus. The qualifications, nature and role of the pastor will be explored as well as the call to pastoral ministry. 


Introduction to Pastoral Theology II - Dr. Tom Ascol
Focuses upon the work of pastoral ministry, including preaching, teaching, prayer, evangelism, counseling, leadership and administration. The theological foundation for these responsibilities is explored with emphasis on the gospel-centeredness of each.



Preaching I - Dr. Tom Ascol
This course is an introduction to biblical preaching. The importance of preaching in pastoral ministry, its biblical basis, and the principles involved in the preparation and delivery of sermons will be investigated.


Hermeneutics - Dr. Fred Malone
This course will include a brief survey of interpretation in the history of the church, followed by an examination of the principles of biblical interpretation from an evangelical and reformed perspective. Examples of hermeneutical application will be examined from various genres of biblical text, including narrative, prophetic and didactic. Special attention will be given to the relationship between the unity and diversity of the Old and New Testaments in Christological perspective. Click here to view a brochure.


Pastoral Counseling - Pastor Tedd Tripp, D. Min.
Introduces students to a Christ-centered, grace motivated methodology of pastoral counseling.


Biblical Spirituality  - Donald Whitney, D.Min
An integrative approach to Christian spirituatlity emphasizing Biblical, classical, and contemporary materials. This course will assist the student in discipleship through personal spiritual disciplines such as prayer, Scripture meditation, Bible study, fasting and journaling.


Old Testament Introduction I - Dr.Phillip Marshall
Covers issues related to the canon and text of the Old Testament. Deals with genre, background, authorship, date, recipients, and contents of Old Testament books. Introduces the student to critical views.
