About MCTS

MCTS came into existence out of a growing conviction that the biblical ideal for ministerial preparation requires mature, seasoned and knowledgeable pastors teaching and mentoring those who give evidence of being called to the Christian ministry.  We believe this approach reflects Paul’s perspective in 2 Tim. 2:2.  However, many pastors are not entirely able on their own to provide thorough training for young men in all the disciplines of  theology – exegetical, systematic, historical and practical.  Our vision has been to gather qualified men (experienced pastors with doctoral degrees) to labor together in a local church context to provide such training.

In order for MCTS to be a genuinely local church ministry, the ultimate authority for its oversight resides with the elders of Heritage Baptist Church.  At the same time, it is our desire for this ministry to cooperate with other local churches in this endeavor.  To that end, and with a view to establishing and maintaining wise policies, MCTS has chosen to be guided by a board of directors made up of godly, experienced pastors and laymen from around the nation and abroad.  That board presently consists of Pastor Tom Ascol, Ph.D., Richard Barcellos, Th.M., Pastor Robert Briggs, Pastor Ted Christman, Pastor Salvador Gomez, Pastor Steve Hartland, Pastor Gary Hendrix, Pastor Fred Malone, Ph.D., Pastor Tedd Tripp, D.Min. and Pastor Sam Waldron, Ph.D.

The ministry of MCTS formally began in the fall of 2005.  As the Lord provides for an expanded faculty, we hope to offer the equivalent of a Master of Divinity degree and a Master of Arts in Theology.   In the meantime, students who wish to graduate from an accredited seminary may take courses at MCTS and transfer them to one of several reputable institutions.  We presently have arrangements with three accredited seminaries that insure acceptance of many of our courses.  Our expectation is to establish the same relationship with several other graduate schools as well.
