History and Future
MCTS is located on the campus of Heritage Baptist Church in Owensboro, KY. Heritage Baptist Church was planted in 1973 under the leadership of Pastor Ted Christman and has grown steadily since its inception.
In 2001, Pastor Sam Waldron moved to Owensboro to complete doctoral studies at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. In 2005 he completed his dissertation. That same year he became an elder at Heritage and MCTS began offering courses in Systematic Theology. Dr. Waldron now functions as academic dean and resident professor of Systematic Theology.
In 2005, a board of directors was formed to give wisdom and guidance to MCTS. This Board was carefully selected to secure the vision and broadly based experience of confessional Reformed Baptist pastors. The board currently includes pastors Tom Ascol, Richard Barcellos, Robert Briggs, Ted Christman, Salvador Gomez, Steve Hartland, Gary Hendrix, Fred Malone, Tedd Tripp, and Sam Waldron.
In July of 2006, MCTS welcomed Pastor Richard Barcellos, Ph.D., as administrative assistant to the dean and part-time lecturer in New Testament Studies. Richard now serves as administrative assistant to the dean and resident associate Professor of New Testament Studies.
Our adjunct faculty includes Tom Nettles, Ph.D., adjunct professor of Historical Theology, Pastor Tom Ascol, Ph.D., adjunct professor of Practical Theology, Pastor Fred Malone, Ph.D., adjunct professor of New Testament Studies, and Pastor Robert Gonzales, Ph.D., adjunct professor of Old Testament Studies. In addition to these proven and gifted men, MCTS enjoys the ministry of guest lecturers, such as Pastor Tedd Tripp, D.Min. and Dr. Don Whitney.
MCTS is building a library and its students enjoy the use of a comfortable study center. Thus far, we have offered courses in Symbolics (i.e., the confession of faith), Systematic Theology, Baptist History, Elementary Greek, Intermediate Greek, Elementary Hebrew, Introduction to Pastoral Theology, Preaching, and Hermeneutics. Our curriculum is both academically and pastorally oriented. We will soon offer a full curriculum for both future pastors and lay persons interested in using their gifts in the church more effectively.
It is the goal of MCTS to staff a full, resident faculty as soon as possible. These faculty members will be experienced, published pastors with doctoral degrees.
It is our burden to see the gospel preached to all peoples of the earth. We want to see existing churches built up and new churches planted both hear and abroad. Our desire is to train men who will be able to pastor in such a way as to stir up a thirst for God in those they minister to in order that they might spread the good news of Jesus Christ to all peoples in all lands for the glory of God.
